Shop at Sam's Club this Weekend... for Free!
According to the Sam's Club Facebook page, anyone can shop at Sam's for FREE this Friday though Sunday August 6-8! Normally there is a 10% surcharge for non-members. Plus, sign up for a membership and get a FREE Rotisserie Chicken or Take N Bake Pizza!
I'm usually able to get Sam's Club prices or better by using coupons combined with sales, but there are a few items I consider a good deal there... Like the 50 lb bag of popcorn for $16! I know it sounds kind of crazy, but we eat a lot of popcorn and if you look at the unit price, it was an incredible deal compared to more than a dollar per pound when you buy it in smaller bags. What items do you think are a good deal at Sam's Club?

I like the tub of pillsbury cookie dough. I can buy a tub of 5lbs of cookie dough that make 80 or so cookies, a few at a time and only cost me around $6.00. To me the convience and amount seem like a good deal.
ReplyDeleteCraisins are an amazing deal at Sam's. You can get a 46oz bag for under $7. I think it costs around $3 for 8oz at the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteSam's is the only place I can find Canadian Steak Rub. It is good on any kind of meat. YUM!
ReplyDeleteIf you make your own bread, the prices on yeast and flour can't be beat. Just have to be able to store the surplus.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the article by Sherri Richards last week in the Forum on buying in bulk?
ReplyDeleteHere are a few of the key points:
As Paul Pflipsen, general manager of Sam’s Club in Fargo, walks around the warehouse store, he points out the items he refers to as “high value.”
Ground beef, yogurt, butter, bread. He holds up two connected 32-ounce jars of Welch’s grape jelly, priced at $2.88.
“It’s like getting one free,” he said.
He said the store’s high volume and its limited “skew base” – the fact that it carries only about 3,500 different items– translate into savings, he said. In fact, the club guarantees you’ll save, or it will refund the membership cost, Pflipsen said.
“The customer knows the price of these items,” he said. “They see the value right away.”

Pankow said the best way for consumers to save buying in bulk is to combine coupons with sales on products they use a lot.
They can’t assume they’re getting a good deal just because it’s being sold in bulk. She’s puzzled when she sees people buying soda at Sam’s Club.
“I’ve never found their pop to be competitively priced,” Pankow said. “If I’m buying soda, I’m buying it on sale.”
